Alpha Networks And Ateme Roll Out Low-Latency OTT Platform

Alpha Networks and Ateme have partnered to deliver a secure, end-to-end video platform for the digital distribution of live sports at a major international sporting event this summer.

Bringing together Ateme's video processing and delivery workflow expertise with Alpha Networks’ Gecko OTT platform, the joint solution creates a unified environment to manage, deliver and watch live content across digital services.

The collaboration spans the full live video chain, from source to screen. Ateme handled the live video workflow — including transcoding, packaging, storage and origin — while Alpha Networks supplied the Gecko OTT platform, cloud infrastructure and application layer to power the user experience.

Latency was a critical KPI for the project. With a target of sub-8 seconds glass-to-glass, the deployment achieved approximately 5 seconds. This was realised by optimising the complete delivery path — from Ateme’s transcoding and packaging, through CDN delivery, to the OTT platform, applications and player — underscoring the value of tight integration to minimise delay for viewers.

Distribution covered 10 HD live channels using adaptive bitrate streaming, with HLS and DASH protocols configured for low latency. On the front end, Alpha Networks provided a white-label experience including a web companion app and a dedicated Android TV application, enabling access on connected TV devices. The platform also features secure authentication and device pairing via QR code to ensure a controlled, seamless experience.
