Ross Video Unveils Ultrix FR30 At IBC 2026

Ross Video has introduced the Ultrix FR30, the largest addition to its Ultrix hyperconverged media infrastructure range, aiming to give broadcasters, live production teams, sports, OB, corporate and media operations enterprise-scale capacity and processing without the typical rise in infrastructure complexity.

With operations expanding but rack space, power, engineering resources and budgets under strain, many organisations still rely on separate systems for routing, processing, multiviewing, audio, production switching and control—set‑ups that add complexity and make future growth costly.

Built on the established Ultrix software-defined architecture, FR30 folds high‑capacity routing, multiviewing, audio and video signal processing, media gateway functions, production switchers, screen processors and control into a single platform. Capabilities are activated by software licences, so customers can unlock new features as needs evolve while protecting existing investments.

Ross says this consolidation helps customers save time, money and space, reduce operational complexity, minimise future redesign effort and scale UHD and IP workflows with confidence.

The FR30 expands the Ultrix range from compact 1RU frames to a 30RU chassis supporting up to 576×576 UHD I/O in a single frame, with the option to combine multiple frames for larger installations. A common set of interchangeable I/O, software architecture, licensing model and operating workflows across the family allows standardisation from small to enterprise sites, easing deployment and training and simplifying upgrades.

Compared with traditional broadcast infrastructures, Ross claims FR30 can cut rack space by up to 97%, power draw by up to 89% and cabling by up to 95%, lowering operating costs, cooling requirements and installation complexity while making scaling easier.

Like other Ultrix systems, FR30 is transport‑agnostic, supporting SDI, SMPTE ST 2110, NDI, Dante, SRT, JPEG XS and other industry‑standard media formats within one platform. Acting as a universal gateway, it enables organisations to transition to IP at their own pace, bridge legacy and next‑generation workflows and improve interoperability across broadcast and IT domains without redesigning core infrastructure.
