Disney+ And ESPN Strike Multi-Year Deal
Disney+, ESPN and Formula E have agreed a multi-year partnership that will bring every Formula E race to Disney+ and ESPN+ in the US, and to Disney+ across most international markets, beginning with the 2026/27 season.
The agreement will cover 21 rounds across 13 events, with the new season scheduled to begin in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on December 18. The championship will also visit cities including Austin, Miami, Monaco and Mexico City before concluding in Tokyo on July 25, 2027.
The deal marks a significant expansion of Formula E's global broadcast reach as the championship prepares to enter a new era with the introduction of its GEN4 cars.
"Formula E combines world-class competition, groundbreaking technology, and sustainability in a way that's unlike any other sport," said Joe Earley, Co-President, Direct-to-Consumer, Disney Entertainment. "We're excited to help power the championship's next chapter on Disney+ and to give fans around the globe front row access to every adrenaline-fueled race as it happens."
The addition of the Formula E world championship on Disney+ sparks a new chapter for sports fans by expanding the growing slate of global live programming on the streamer, including the record-breaking 2026 FIFA World Cup in South America, select LALIGA football rights in Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, the UK, Ireland and France, NBA games in the Philippines, and UEFA Women's Champions League across Europe and Latin America. All of these and more create a compelling destination for sports fans.
Launched in 2014, Formula E is preparing for the debut of its GEN4 era in the 2026/27 season, with the championship set to feature the fastest and most powerful cars in its history.
The new cars will deliver up to 600kW of power, equivalent to more than 815 horsepower, and are capable of accelerating from 0 to 60mph in approximately 1.8 seconds.
The championship will also introduce an enhanced race weekend format aimed at increasing on-track competition and creating greater excitement for audiences.
The new Disney+ agreement will provide comprehensive coverage of Formula E events, including preview and review programmes, practice, qualifying, races and highlights.
The addition of Formula E further expands Disney+'s growing portfolio of live international sports content.
The streaming service already offers a range of sporting programming, including premium documentaries and original series, ESPN's 30 for 30 documentary collection and select studio programming such as ESPN FC.
Formula E is currently in its 12th season, with the 2025/26 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship due to conclude in London on August 15 and 16, when the final race of the season will determine the World Championship.
The new broadcast partnership will then usher in a new phase for the championship, combining its expanded global distribution with the arrival of GEN4 and a 21-round calendar spanning some of the world's most prominent cities.
