Riedel’s communication platform used at Nordic Ski World Championship

Riedel Communications have supplied a sophisticated communications platform to the FIS Nordic Ski World Championship in Oberstdorf, Germany.
The configuration, comprised of intercom, radio and IT network technology, and video transmission systems, kept communications pristine at the recent event. The contest attracted more than 360,000 visitors making it one of the most important winter sports competitions of the season.
Riedel’s Artist digital matrix system was used to facilitate transmission and distribution of intercom and audio signals between the Schattenberg jump base in Oberstdorf, and the cross country ski center in Ried. The Company installed over 10km of fibre connecting the two locations. Utilising a Telecast-System, Riedel also performed the transmission of video for the host broadcaster TRIO (a joint-venture of ARD and ZDF) from the jump-base to the TV compound / International Broadcast Centre in Ried.
In addition, Riedel’s Riface radio technology served at the heart of three radio installations, each containing up to 12 repeater channels. Networking and central control of the installation was accomplished by Riedel’s Artist platform. Apart from the communications infrastructure, Riedel provided programming and the complete handling of 450 radio units including individual accessories.
In Oberstdorf Riedel engineers supplied computer network technology, workstations and full support services to supplement the event’s IT infrastructure.
The IT solution enabled over 250 journalists and the members of the organization committee to have instant access to the internet and their email accounts at the main press centre in Oberstdorf and the two sub press centres at the venues.
