Broadcast Management Group Powers Amazon Prime's Obsessed Fest Livestream
Broadcast Management Group (BMG) successfully delivered Amazon Prime's inaugural Obsessed Fest as an eight-hour, TikTok-exclusive livestream using LiveU's EcoSystem, showcasing a social-first production model that achieved record audience engagement.
The event, produced entirely in a 9:16 vertical format for TikTok, marked a departure from traditional broadcast workflows by being designed specifically for social media rather than adapted from a conventional television production. LiveU said its EcoSystem—including multi- and single-camera field units, LiveU IQ™ (LIQ™) bandwidth management technology, and LiveU Ingest—provided the connectivity and cloud-based production infrastructure needed to support the broadcast.
Held across the Nya Studios lot in Hollywood, California, Obsessed Fest celebrated Amazon Prime's slate of young adult programming and was conceived as the first installment of a recurring franchise. The production was developed and executed in just three weeks, with BMG serving as the lead producer and managing the end-to-end production workflow.
The production featured 16 total recordings and 12 live camera feeds, including handheld cameras, a Steadicam, robotic cameras on the main stage, crewed cameras, and compact robotic cameras in an indoor activation space. All feeds were transmitted live to BMG's Network Operations Center (NOC) in Washington, D.C., where switching, replay, graphics, media asset management, and playout were handled remotely while a lean production team remained on site in Hollywood.
Streaming exclusively to TikTok from a venue hosting approximately 1,000 attendees created significant cellular network challenges. BMG relied on LiveU IQ (LIQ), the company's AI-driven connectivity technology, to dynamically manage bandwidth across three roaming transmission units. By continuously evaluating available networks and selecting the strongest connection for each SIM card in real time, LIQ maintained uninterrupted transmission throughout the eight-hour production despite heavy cellular congestion.
Behind the scenes, LiveU Ingest enabled all 16 clean and dirty feeds to be recorded continuously in the cloud, giving a 20-person editorial team immediate access to footage while recording was still underway. Because the platform is cloud-native, BMG was able to scale recording capacity without deploying additional on-premises hardware, allowing editors working remotely to quickly create and publish TikTok-native content throughout the event.
"LiveU Ingest was a technology we hadn't used prior to this project, but we trusted that when LiveU says a product is ready, it's ready. For a fast-moving show of this magnitude, Ingest turned out to be the perfect cloud solution," said Todd Mason, CEO, Broadcast Management Group. "Our relationship with LiveU is collaborative and synchronized as we build out next-generation studios and remote workflows. In tier-one productions, you only get one bite at the apple, and LiveU's technology gives us the rock-solid reliability to stop worrying about the pipeline and focus entirely on the creative show."
According to LiveU, the TikTok broadcast peaked at nearly 850,000 concurrent viewers during the event, significantly exceeding the approximately 1,500 people attending in person. The company said audience engagement continued to grow throughout the broadcast, with content remaining active on the platform after the event concluded.
Obsessed Fest featured red carpet interviews with more than 30 cast members from Amazon's young adult series, an Amazon Music listening lounge with live performances, and a surprise headlining performance by Jennifer Lopez. The production team coordinated the performance with the live camera plan to support the event's social-first broadcast strategy.
BMG views the success of Obsessed Fest as an indication of increasing demand for productions built exclusively for social platforms rather than traditional broadcast distribution.
"A show built for TikTok doesn't get a smaller production plan, it gets a smarter one," said Sean Wyburn, Chief Technology Officer, Broadcast Management Group. "We ran single-cam and multi-cam setups off the same LU800 units, including four PTZ cameras through one unit with IP Pipe as our only connection to the outside world. No extra gear needed. That’s what let us stay lean on site while still holding a broadcast standard. Once LIQ proved it could hold steady in a cell-congested scenario, we stopped worrying about the pipeline and just focused on the show."
LiveU said the project reflects a broader shift toward cloud-enabled, broadcast-quality workflows designed specifically for digital platforms.
"This isn't simply another successful REMI production – it's evidence that a new production category has arrived. Social-first events require broadcast-quality workflows delivered with the speed, flexibility and economics of the cloud. That's exactly where the industry is headed, and we’re building the EcoSystem to support it," said Janel Moorefield, Senior VP of Sales, LiveU. "BMG has shown what's possible when digital-first creativity is paired with broadcast-grade technology. We believe productions like Obsessed Fest are defining the next generation of live production."
