Channel 4 Appoints Encompass Digital Media

Channel 4 has selected Encompass Digital Media to provide managed linear playout services under a new multi-year agreement due to begin in 2027.

The appointment follows a competitive procurement and evaluation process carried out by the public service broadcaster ahead of the launch of the new service.

Under the agreement, Encompass will deliver channel origination, content supply chain and disaster recovery services across Channel 4's portfolio, including Channel 4, E4, More4, Film4, E4 Extra and 4seven.

The services will be provided from Encompass' broadcast facilities in London and Riga using the company's cloud-native Altitude platform, including Altitude Playout and Altitude Flow.

The deployment is designed to provide Channel 4 with a resilient managed service that combines channel origination with an integrated content supply chain. According to Encompass, the software-defined, remote-first architecture will give the broadcaster greater technical and operational flexibility as broadcasting and distribution technologies continue to evolve, while maintaining the service quality expected by viewers.

The agreement builds on Encompass' experience delivering managed broadcast services for broadcasters around the world and reflects growing demand across the industry for cloud-native playout and content supply chain solutions.
