CAIW deploys BigBand BMR for IP television

BigBand Networks has announced that CAIW has deployed the BigBand BMR (Broadband Multimedia-Service Router) for IP television services.
The Dutch operator is using the BMR platform to make its digital cable content also available for fibre distribution.
“It was a priority for CAIW to work with a partner that brings technology and service expertise for seamless extension of our high quality video services to IP environments,” said Aart Verbee, chief executive officer for CAIW. “BigBand Networks’ integrated solution provides all of the necessary functionality for IP television services, with the BMR platform providing the scalability, flexibility and reliability to continue evolving with CAIW’s needs.”
In the deployment, the BigBand BMR accesses locally and remotely sourced digital video feeds, and maximizes video quality while adjusting bit rates for compliance with IP distribution and device tolerances. The content is encapsulated in UDP/IP and distributed by Gigabit Ethernet to fibre access facilities.
“CAIW is marking itself as one of Europe’s most advanced operators through the availability of its content by multiple access methods,” said Sam Kershaw, BigBand Networks director EMEA. “BigBand Networks is extending to CAIW the full versatility of our platform capabilities to work in both digital cable and IP fibre environments.”
