Channel 4 Announces New Commissioning Leadership Structure

Channel 4 has unveiled a new leadership structure for its commissioning division, introducing three Director-level roles that will report directly to Chief Executive Priya Dogra.

The restructure will take effect following the departure of current Chief Content Officer Ian Katz later this year.

Under the new model, the Commissioning team will be led by three Directors: Louisa Compton and Kiran Nataraja, alongside a third Director who is yet to be appointed. The broadcaster said the changes are intended to provide clearer strategic focus across distinct areas of content leadership and delivery.

The new structure establishes three core roles: Director of News, Digital and Audience Trust; Director of Programmes; and Director of Content Strategy.

Louisa Compton, currently Head of News & Current Affairs, Specialist Factual & Sport, will take on the role of Director of News, Digital and Audience Trust. She will oversee news, current affairs, specialist factual content and sport, as well as digital-first commissioning. In this role she will continue to lead Channel 4’s journalism output, which the broadcaster said has received more awards than any other outlet under her leadership. The position is designed to reinforce high-quality journalism as a central pillar of the channel’s editorial output.

The Director of Programmes role, currently being recruited, will serve as Channel 4’s primary creative lead, responsible for shaping the overall programming vision. This position will carry full commissioning and editorial responsibility across scripted and unscripted genres, including documentaries, entertainment, factual entertainment and lifestyle programming.

Kiran Nataraja, currently Director of Streaming & Content Strategy, will become Director of Content Strategy. In this role, she will oversee how content is commissioned, funded and delivered, while also acting as the commercial backbone of the commissioning function. Her responsibilities will continue to include portfolio planning across channels and streaming, as well as acquisitions. Channel 4 described her as a highly regarded strategist who has played a key role in driving streaming growth and improving efficiency across the content portfolio.

The broadcaster said the Director of News, Digital and Audience Trust and the Director of Programmes will hold end-to-end editorial responsibility within their remits, setting creative and strategic direction, overseeing talent development, and ensuring content aligns with Channel 4’s remit and audience priorities. The Director of Content Strategy will support this framework by ensuring commissioning processes operate efficiently and with commercial discipline.

“The new structure is designed to give clear and dedicated focus across three distinct areas. The three new Director roles will report to Channel 4 CEO, Priya Dogra.”

Channel 4 said the revised commissioning model is intended to embed its editorial identity more firmly across the organisation, strengthening its ability to deliver bold, innovative and trusted content representing audiences across the UK. For producers, the broadcaster added, the changes should provide clearer commissioning priorities, faster decision-making and a more streamlined path from development through to delivery and performance.
