Multikabel introduces 10 Mbps Internet access on BigBand Cuda

BigBand Networks, a leading provider of network platforms for video, voice and data services, has announced that Multikabel is introducing 10 megabit-per-second downstream/2 megabit-per-second upstream Internet access on the BigBand Cuda12000 CMTS (cable modem termination system).
The Dutch cable operator currently provides high speed data services to more than 100,000 subscribers and voice over IP telephony to more than 15,000 subscribers, and is expanding its Cuda usage with this new increase of Internet access speeds.
“BigBand Networks’ expandable platforms and supportive professional services are enabling Multikabel to economically expand the quality and variety of services we provide to our subscribers,” said Ritzo Holtman, network director for Multikabel. “Cuda reliably achieves the connectivity required to deliver rich media services over the fastest access speeds available in the Netherlands.”
The Cuda12000 is a high-capacity platform with multiple features that optimize performance at fast connectivity. These include the highly reliable MeshFlow architecture that maximises service availability, and optimising RF (radio frequency) performance of signals to overcome plant impairments. As a result, cable operators are able to reliably and economically provide subscribers Internet access at speeds that can be used for multiple sessions of bandwidth-intensive services such as streaming media, networked gaming and video conferencing.
“Multikabel is establishing a leading position in Internet access speed by leveraging the Cuda’s scalability and support for advanced IP technologies such as Euro-DOCSIS 1.1, Euro-DOCSIS 2.0 and Euro-PacketCable Multimedia,” said Pirjo Tuomi, BigBand Networks’ senior vice president of worldwide sales. “This is an example of how operators like Multikabel can maximise the range of video, voice and data services they offer from BigBand Networks’ family of intelligent network platforms.”
