Rohde & Schwarz Highlights ATSC 3.0 Transmitters And New BroadcastShield Service
Rohde & Schwarz will use the NAB Show 2026 to spotlight its terrestrial transmission line-up, underlining operational efficiency and built-in ATSC 3.0 capabilities.
The company is unveiling R&S®BroadcastShield, a proactive monitoring and support service that creates a secure link between transmitters and Rohde & Schwarz engineers, allowing issues to be diagnosed and addressed - often pre-emptively. The portfolio is aimed at boosting infrastructure resilience while helping broadcasters manage long-term operating costs. The firm will also continue its R&S®Tech Talks programme, sharing insights on current industry trends.
A major theme at NAB 2026 is the potential of ATSC 3.0 and DTV+. These technologies promise enhanced viewer experiences such as 4K pictures and immersive media, and enable applications including Broadcast Positioning System (BPS), which offers a positioning solution independent of GNSS. They also open new revenue opportunities via datacasting and strengthen public safety with resilient emergency alerts. Rohde & Schwarz is supporting ATSC 3.0 adoption with future-proof transmitters, software-defined exciters and MIMO support to increase capacity and coverage. In Brazil, the company is playing a key role in the national DTV+ programme, collaborating with broadcasters and industry partners to validate transmission technologies, back field trials and accelerate the move to next-generation terrestrial television.
"In today's broadcast environment, proactive maintenance and rapid response are essential for maintaining continuous operation," said Erik Balladares, Vice President of North American Broadcast Sales at Rohde & Schwarz. "R&S®BroadcastShield isn’t just about quickly fixing problems; it’s about preventing issues and ensuring our customers can focus on delivering content, knowing their infrastructure is supported by our transmitter experts."
Rohde & Schwarz will also host its established Tech Talks at NAB 2026, with updates on ATSC 3.0/DTV+ deployments in the USA and Brazil, alongside expert discussions on market challenges and opportunities. Visit Rohde & Schwarz at booth C2050.
