Rohde & Schwarz Partners With Viasat On NB-NTN IoT Satellite Connectivity Test Plan

Viasat, a global satellite communications provider, and Rohde & Schwarz, a specialist in test and measurement, will collaborate to enhance and broaden testing for non-terrestrial network (NTN) capabilities in narrowband IoT devices. The initiative is designed to validate chipsets, modules and end devices against 3GPP Release 17 requirements while confirming compatibility with Viasat’s satellite network.

By applying advanced test methodologies, the partnership seeks to underpin high-quality, reliable connectivity for IoT deployments in areas that lack terrestrial coverage, supporting uninterrupted service for a wide range of satellite-based applications.

The certification test plan spans protocol, performance and RF scenarios and runs on the Rohde & Schwarz CMX500 one-box tester. The platform supports multiple NTN technologies, including NR-NTN and NB-NTN, and covers workflows from R&D through certification and carrier acceptance to deliver consistent, repeatable results. This can help engineers accelerate development, ensure quality and deploy dependable NTN services across the ecosystem.

Rohde & Schwarz will present initial results from the protocol, performance and RF test scenarios at MWC Barcelona 2026 from 2 to 5 March at its booth 5A80 in Hall 5. Viasat will exhibit in Hall 6 at booth 6A20.
