GlobalM Showcases GMX Video Gateway
GlobalM SA is presenting its GMX Distributed Video Gateway at NAB Show 2026, introducing a software-defined IP media transport platform designed to replace traditional hardware-based contribution and distribution systems.
The Geneva-based technology company is also unveiling GMDC (GlobalM Device Control), a new capability that extends orchestration beyond media transport to include encoder and decoder management through direct API integration. The system brings codec configuration and network routing together within a single operational framework.
Alongside GMDC, GlobalM is expanding its edge processing capabilities with new high-end signal processing services that can be activated on demand. Frame rate conversion and HDR-to-SDR conversion are now available as software-based functions deployed at the network edge, allowing broadcasters to apply advanced signal processing without dedicated hardware. The services operate on a pay-as-you-go basis, enabling operators to activate processing only when needed for specific events or distribution workflows.
The platform also introduces enhanced cloud connectivity and monitoring features. New cloud network access points and the addition of GM Tunnel provide transparent connectivity between cloud environments and on-premise infrastructure, enabling distributed workflows across multiple cloud providers. A cloud-based multiviewer service has also been added, providing production teams with a virtual network operations centre (NOC) for monitoring live feeds remotely.
GlobalM has additionally optimised its cloud builds for ARM-based Amazon Web Services Graviton infrastructure, aiming to improve performance per watt while supporting the broadcast industry’s growing focus on energy-efficient infrastructure.
The launch comes as the media industry continues to shift from fixed transmission capacity toward event-driven, software-controlled infrastructure. Platforms such as GlobalM’s are designed to support live IP media networks operating across internet, fibre, 5G and low Earth orbit satellite connections.
According to the company, the system separates orchestration from physical infrastructure. Instead of binding streams to dedicated hardware gateways, routing and processing policies are defined centrally and executed across available infrastructure nodes. This allows operators to scale capacity up or down by adding or removing nodes across cloud, on-premise or hybrid environments.
The platform supports multiple streaming protocols—including SRT, RIST, RTP, RTMP, HLS and MPEG-DASH—within a unified orchestration layer. Secure nodes connect to a central control plane, forming what GlobalM describes as a distributed transport fabric for live IP workflows.
A key element of the architecture is GlobalM’s patented “Pod” model, which allows each pod to function as an ingress, egress or processing node. This approach distributes gateway functionality across multiple locations rather than relying on a single appliance, creating what the company describes as a scalable virtualised gateway network.
Continuous health monitoring is embedded within the transport layer, with real-time evaluation of latency, packet integrity and node responsiveness. Predefined resilience policies can automatically switch transmission paths when thresholds are exceeded.
Unlike container cluster-based systems, GlobalM’s platform runs natively under OS-level orchestration, a design the company says reduces computational overhead and improves recovery times in live broadcast environments where predictability is essential.
GlobalM will be exhibiting the platform at NAB Show 2026 in West Hall 3, Stand W3736.
