Sonifex's Eamonn Heffernan To Retire After 49 Years
Sonifex has announced that its long-standing Sales Manager, Eamonn Heffernan, will retire on 31 March 2026. His departure marks the end of a remarkable 49-year tenure with the firm, during which he became a highly regarded figure in the professional audio and broadcast sectors. Known for his technical expertise and positive presence, Heffernan's career spanned nearly half a century of industry evolution and company growth.
Eamonn has been a cornerstone of Sonifex and a highly respected figure within the broadcast and professional audio industry. Renowned for his wit, charm, and infectious positivity, he will be deeply missed by colleagues, customers, and partners alike.
Beginning his career at Sonifex in March 1977, Eamonn developed a deep foundation in audio electronics and product design, working hands-on across testing, QC, and technical roles. As the company and its product portfolio evolved, so did Eamonn's expertise, giving him a rare and comprehensive understanding of Sonifex equipment from the inside out - from circuit-level design considerations through to real-world broadcast and studio applications.
This exceptional technical knowledge carried seamlessly into his sales career, where Eamonn became far more than a sales representative. He was a trusted technical authority, regularly providing customers with detailed advice, bespoke solutions, and long-term system guidance. His ability to translate complex engineering concepts into clear, practical recommendations made him invaluable to engineers, system designers, and integrators worldwide.
Eamonn's warmth, humour, and natural empathy helped build lasting relationships and guided customers and colleagues through both challenging projects and difficult times. His presence has enriched Sonifex culture immeasurably, leaving behind decades of shared knowledge, mentorship, and memories filled with laughter.
Richard Butlin, Head of Sales said, "49 years of continuous service with the same company is an achievement not many can claim. With such an exceptional length of service, Eamonn will be missed by his Sonifex colleagues, customers and many friends that he has made during his time in the Audio Industry.
The amount of technical knowledge gained over those years is just incredible, and his desire to keep on learning has always set him apart.
His commitment, curiosity, and willingness to share his expertise have left a lasting mark on everyone who has had the pleasure of working with him. Eamonn's legacy isn't just in the products he helped shape, but in the people he supported, mentored, and inspired along the way, me included."
Marcus Brooke, CEO of Sonifex said, "I think I can speak for everyone here when I say what a genuine privilege it has been to work alongside Eamonn over the years. Throughout his 49-year career, he has taken on a wide range of roles within the company and carried out each one with the utmost professionalism.
"In sales, he stood out not only for his remarkable depth of product knowledge, but also for the way he connected with people. Eamonn has always been one of the most personable, approachable, and genuinely funny colleagues anyone could hope to work with, making every day brighter for those around him. Eamonn's legacy at Sonifex is huge and he will be missed.
"Eamonn, congratulations on your retirement. Thank you for everything you've contributed, and we wish you a long, happy, and thoroughly well-deserved retirement."
Sonifex would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to Eamonn for his loyalty, technical excellence, commitment, and unwavering positivity, and for his outstanding contribution to both Sonifex and the wider Broadcast and Pro Audio community worldwide.
We wish Eamonn a happy, healthy, and well-deserved retirement, and congratulate him on the conclusion of a truly remarkable career.
Sales Handover
Following this announcement, to ensure continuity and the highest level of service for customers, there will be a planned handover of Eamonn's accounts to Richard Butlin, Head of Sales at Sonifex. Richard has worked closely alongside Eamonn for almost 40 years and brings extensive experience across Sonifex's product portfolio, customer base, and global partners, making him the perfect fit. This carefully managed handover will ensure you continue to receive the same trusted advice, technical support, and personal service you've come to expect.
Welcoming James Gross to the Sales Team
Alongside this transition, Sonifex is delighted to announce the appointment of James Gross as Product & Audio Specialist. James joined the sales team on 15th December and will play a key role in strengthening customer engagement across the UK.
Bringing extensive experience in music, broadcast and professional audio, James combines strong technical knowledge with hands-on industry expertise. In his primarily field-based role, he works directly with customers to deliver product demonstrations, identify new business opportunities and support Sonifex's distributor and dealer network.
James studied at the Royal Academy of Music before completing the prestigious Tonmeister degree at the University of Surrey, known for its rigorous focus on acoustics, audio technology and recording engineering. His previous roles include positions at HHB, SADiE, the BBC and music retailer PMT. He has also trained engineers worldwide and contributed to numerous acclaimed classical recordings.
His ability to translate complex technical requirements into practical solutions makes him a valuable addition to the Sonifex team.
Sonifex remains committed to providing expert advice, continuity of service, and strong customer relationships as the company looks ahead to the future.
