Public Media Management Selects LTN
Public Media Management (PMM) has named LTN as the technology partner for PMM Cloud, a new managed, cloud-based master control solution designed specifically for public media stations.
Announced on 2 February, the partnership brings together PMM’s decade-long experience operating master control services for public television with LTN’s multicast IP video network, which is widely used by commercial broadcasters around the world. PMM Cloud is delivered through a cloud-first architecture running on the LTN Network and is intended to help stations address financial pressures, ageing infrastructure and limited engineering resources while maintaining reliability, local control and on-air quality.
PMM said the solution offers 99.9% reliability, predictable pricing and a significantly reduced on-premises hardware footprint.
"Selecting the right technology partner was critical, and we went through a rigorous RFP process to ensure PMM Cloud would meet the real-world needs of public media stations," said Marc Hand, CEO of Public Media Management. "LTN gives us the broadcast-proven infrastructure to offer stations the flexibility to run hands-off day-to-day operations or maintain full control over their schedules and workflows—while still benefiting from cloud-based agility and expert Network Operations Center staff, with live support available 24/7/365 for monitoring and oversight."
LTN operates a fully managed IP video transport network built specifically for live broadcast, delivering nearly 8,000 channels and millions of live events each year. Its services are active in every US television market and are used for applications including 24/7 channel origination, live event distribution, FAST channel delivery and network scheduling. Through the partnership, PMM Cloud will use the same infrastructure deployed by major commercial broadcasters, adapted to the operational and mission-focused requirements of public media.
PMM Cloud integrates core broadcast functions such as scheduling, traffic, optimisation and linear channel playback, while allowing stations to retain the ability to insert local content and take control during live programming. The platform is designed to simplify routine operations while providing continuous expert support.
The service also supports new capabilities including digital streaming management, video-on-demand workflows, advanced graphics and branding, and preparation for emerging technologies such as ATSC 3.0, while preserving local identity and editorial control.
"With increasing financial pressure across the public media system, delivering reliable and affordable transport and master control solutions has never been more important," said Rick Young, SVP, Head of Global Products of LTN. "LTN is proud to partner with PMM to bring broadcast-proven, cloud-based technology to public media stations—helping them reduce costs, modernize operations, and continue to serve their communities. We look forward to supporting public media stations as they adapt, remain resilient, and thrive."
PMM Cloud is offered as a fully managed service with transparent pricing and no requirement for capital investment in traditional master control hardware. Stations connect via a single on-site gateway, while PMM's Network Operations Center provides continuous monitoring and operational oversight.
The launch of PMM Cloud expands PMM’s master control portfolio, complementing its existing PMM Classic offering and giving public media stations greater flexibility as they plan for future operations.
