DATES FOR JUNIOR DUBLIN FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCED
The 12th Junior Dublin Festival is to take place from November 18 to December 4, and is sponsored by UCI Cinemas, Coolock and Tallaght, and the Irish Film Centre (IFC).
The festival is an international showcase of world cinema for young people, both feature and short films, plus workshops and talks from filmmakers.
As always suitable Irish short and feature films will be included. This years programme will feature the new Irish film ‘The Crooked Mile’.
The festival, which will be opened by the Lord Mayor of Dublin, sees the introduction of a new competition for film interested teenagers, entitled ‘World View’.
Transition year students will be invited to enter a competition to be a judge of ‘World View’. From these a jury of 30 students, from a variety of schools, will be selected to judge the best film. Having seen the films in competition they will take part in a discussion, chaired by an authority on film, to select the winner. The director of the winning film and the jury will be invited to attend the closing film in UCI Tallaght, where the director will receive a prize.
The Junior Dublin Film Festival is one of the biggest of its kind in Western Europe. Recognised by the Department of Education for school attendance, and of great benefit for Leaving Certificate English students, the festival aims to highlight film as an art form as well as a source of entertainment.
