ITC CONSULTS ON CHANGES TO CODE ON SPORTS

THE Independent Television Commission (ITC) have published proposed amendments to the regulatory Code on Sports and other Listed Events for public consultation.
The changes are intended to clarify the requirements which ensure that broadcasters licensed by the ITC, which can include broadcasters transmitting to other EEA states, do not circumvent rules on listed events which apply in those states.
The revised wording is being introduced as a consequence of a recent legal case involving TV Danmark, where there was disagreement over the application of the ITC Code to listed events in other EEA states.
Other minor changes are proposed to update the Code – the Five Nations Rugby Tournament now being the Six Nations, for example.
