Derry Girls To Return For Third Series

News Image
Award-winning Channel 4 comedy 'Derry Girls' will return for a third series, it has been announced.

The Northern Ireland-based show broke records during its second season, which finished airing last night, 09 April. It launched with a consolidated audience of 3.2m viewers for episode one, which makes it Channel 4's biggest UK comedy launch episode for 15 years.

Series two has so far part-consolidated at 2.7m viewers (after four episodes), increasing from the series one average of 2.5m viewers.

Derry Girls is from the mind of acclaimed writer Lisa McGee who has mined her own experiences for a family-centred comedy set against the backdrop of The Troubles in 1990's Derry.

Fiona McDermott, Head of Comedy at Channel 4, said: "It's no surprise that Derry Girls continues to delight a growing legion of fans – a combination of magical writing and adorable characters make this show both timely and timeless. We're delighted to confirm a third series -  don't tell Ma Mary, but I'm breaking open the Christmas cupboard in celebration."

The first two series of Derry Girls is available on All 4 in the UK.
