SMPTE January Webcasts

News Image
SMPTE have announced their January webcasts open to all of the groups members and credentialed press.

Standards Webcast – Building Large SMPTE ST 2110 Systems Using JT-NM TR-1001-1

SPEAKERS: John Mailhot, CTO of Networking and Infrastructure at Imagine Communications, and Brad Gilmer, president of Gilmer & Associates

WHEN: Thursday, Jan. 10, 1 p.m. EST

The SMPTE ST 2110 family of standards is designed to provide a great deal of flexibility in system implementations and focuses mainly on the definitions of media stream contents. Likewise, the AMWA IS-04 and IS-05 specifications are highly flexible APIs that allow a variety of media types and infrastructures. SMPTE ST 2059 is also very flexible.

Technology Webcast – Machine Learning in M&E: Reality Versus Hype

SPEAKER: Yves Bergquist, director of the AI & Neuroscience in Media project at the Entertainment Technology Center (ETC) at USC

WHEN: Thursday, Jan. 24, 1 p.m. EST

AI is here. From autonomous vehicles to voice-controlled agents, more and more machine intelligence research is crawling from the lab into everyday life, and all signs point to this trend accelerating. More data, more cheap computing, and much more investment are indicators that AI, this time, is here to stay. But true AI is still very rare: the label's been used to death by unscrupulous marketers, reporters, and even some researchers, which still confuse learning for actual intelligence. Real AI is hard — much harder than most people have been led to believe. This is especially true in the media industry, where data is small and often fractured, and the questions presented to it are extraordinarily complex. To navigate what AI is, where it is going, and what it means for the media industry, learn from ETC AI researcher Yves Bergquist in this detailed and case studies-driven webinar.

SMPTE Technology Webcasts are complimentary for SMPTE Members.
