New Partnership For Screen Training Ireland

Details of a new partnership between Screen Training Ireland, Animation Skillnet and Dublin Institute of Technology has been unveiled by Ireland's Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton TD.

Minister Bruton has launched 26 new national apprenticeships for development as part of the expanded Apprenticeship Scheme. One of these new apprenticeships is a Level 9 Apprenticeship in Animation (CGI Technical Artist).

Screen Training Ireland is focusing heavily on work-based learning to develop cutting-edge industry skills, and is collaborating with a number of Education and Training Boards (ETBs) to develop a range of on-the-job initiatives in Animation, VFX and Live Action film and TV production. This includes a Career Traineeship in Kilkenny in association with Cartoon Saloon, Kilkenny Carlow ETB, Animation Skillnet and Young Irish Filmmakers.

Sorcha Loughnane, Screen Training Ireland, said: "This apprenticeship is a huge endorsement of the success and vibrancy of the Irish animation sector, and will be a key initiative in the development and formalisation of work-based learning in the sector. The creative technology area is growing rapidly, and industry-led programmes such as this will be critical in developing highly skilled talent in animation, VFX, games and digital production. We look forward to working with the Apprenticeship Council, Animation Skillnet, DIT and industry on the development of this exciting apprenticeship."
