BBC Wales Launch Creative and Digital Media Apprenticeships

BBC Cymru Wales is looking for the Welsh creative and media talent of the future from across Wales.
Only a week remains for candidates to apply to the new Apprenticeship in Creative and Digital Media for the opportunity of a work placement with BBC Cymru Wales, with applications due to close at midnight on Monday 17 October, 2011.
The apprenticeship scheme, a partnership between Skillset Cymru, BBC Wales and the independent sector, will provide a broad introduction into working in the creative media industries. The hope is that up to 24 apprentices will gain on-the-job, practical training and experience as well as classroom-based learning at either Coleg Llandrillo Cymru or Cardiff and Vale College, leading to a Level 3 Certificate in Creative and Digital Media – an industry recognised qualification. Twelve-month work placements will be available with BBC Cymru Wales and with independent companies.
The apprentices will learn the creative and technical skills they need to build a media career in Wales, as well as a range of other core media industry skills – like communication, team working, creative thinking and health and safety. During their work placements, the apprentices will also be taught specific skills in at least one of the following specialist areas: Post Production; Set Construction and Rigging; Camera & Lighting; Hair, Make-up and Prosthetics; Costume; Animation; Production; and Interactive Media.
Rhodri Talfan Davies, Director BBC Cymru Wales, said: "BBC Cymru Wales is committed to developing the next generation of creative and media talent. Some of the BBC's most-loved content - like Doctor Who, Casualty, Merlin, Sherlock and Pobol Y Cwm is made in Wales and we've built a well-deserved reputation as a centre of excellence for drama and media. As BBC Wales moves into its high-tech new studios in Roath Lock, it's important to us to continue to nurture new talent – on site and on set. Working with Skillset Cymru and the organisation's extensive knowledge of training the industry will ensure that we can give the best training possible to the programme-makers of the future."
The application window is open until Monday 17 October. Selection will take place in November with the first apprentices starting their training in January 2012.
