Sky And NFTS Unveil Apprenticeships Opening Pathways Into Screen Careers

News Image
Sky has announced a new apprenticeship pathway created with the NFTS, giving two aspiring creatives the chance to gain hands-on, paid experience across Sky Entertainment alongside expert training.

The programme opens for applications today and is set to begin in January 2027.

Designed to broaden access to the film and television sector, the initiative will enable emerging production talent to learn from industry professionals and see, first-hand, how programmes are developed and brought to audiences.

Recruits will join Sky Entertainment as Level 4 Junior Production Coordinator apprentices on a 15-month scheme funded in partnership with Publicis Media’s APX Content Ventures. While working on live projects, they will develop practical skills, earn a nationally recognised qualification and build their first steps towards a creative career. Applications can be made via the NFTS website.

The production coordinator apprenticeship will involve placements at Sky Studios Elstree and Sky's Osterley campus, as well as across scripted and unscripted productions. Apprentices will work with production teams to gain practical experience bringing Sky shows to life.

The new scheme builds on Sky's wider collaboration with the NFTS. A fresh cohort is starting the Sky Post Production Apprenticeship this month, with applications for next year opening in October. That 15-month programme offers two Level 4 Edit Assistant roles, primarily based at Osterley, includes 20% offsite learning with specialist NFTS training blocks, and provides training, support and assessment from the NFTS.

Together, these initiatives form part of Sky’s long-standing commitment to opening doors into the creative industries. Since 2012, Sky Up Academy has reached nearly 360,000 young people, helping them explore their creative potential and learn about careers in media, while Sky’s broader early careers programmes continue to offer routes into roles across content, production and post-production.
