Canon launch cine-style lenses

News Image
CANON’S seven new cine-style lenses are set to improve the quality of digital camera technology.
The gap between video and film has narrowed considerably since the introduction of digital cinema HDTV cameras into areas traditionally viewed as the preserve of film cameras. Canon’s new prime series and cine-zoom lenses have been designed to reduce that gap still further.
Five of the seven models are the FJ Prime Series with fixed focal lengths of 5 mm, 9 mm, 14 mm, 24 mm and 35 mm. They feature high-modulation transfer functions, reduced chromatic aberrations and minimised distortion. Furthermore, they employ eight-piece iris-leaves and an adjustable focus index-ring for capturing delicate out-of-focus images.
The other two models are cine-zoom lenses. The HJ11x4.7B KLL-SC, with its wide-end focal length of 4.7 mm, a zoom ratio of 11 magnification and an MOD of 0.59 mm. And finally, the HJ21x7.5B KLL-SC, which features technology that can dramatically reduce apparent changes in object dimensions during focusing.
All these new cine-style lenses feature a unified design, which makes the lenses interchangeable. They also feature a big-focus rotation, four connectors for focus pins, index figures on alternate sides, high-resolution focus, minimised zooming effect and minimised chromatic aberration.
The new lens technology will contribute to cultivating a new and versatile production environment for high-quality video material at a relatively low cost.
Moviemakers and commercial producers using computer graphics and special effects will benefit most from combining the Canon lens with digital HDTV cinemas. (GMcG)
