Angénieux Unveils New Optimo Lens

Making its European debut at IBC, Angénieux presented its new Optimo 44-440 A2S – the latest addition to its Optimo anamorphic 2x Squeeze series. The company also introduced the Type EZ Series; a new range of two zoom lenses featuring Interchangeable Rear Optics (IRO technology) to cover S35mm and larger image formats for cine and broadcast productions.

First introduced at NAB earlier this year, the Optimo 44-440 A2S features 2x horizontal squeeze, minimum breathing and distortion, and an aperture of T:4.5 across the zoom range. It has a close focus of 4ft 1in (1.24m), and weighs 16.6lbs.

It is the third lens in the Optimo anamorphic 2x Squeeze series, joining the Optimo 56-152 A2S released in 2014, and the Optimo 30-72 A2S released last year.

The modular design of the lens also enables the lens conversion from anamorphic to spherical. The Optimo 44-440 A2S (T4.5- MOD 4.1ft/1.24m) can be converted to a 25-250mm (T3.5 – MOD 4ft/1.21m) spherical lens by exchanging the rear optical element and the Focus, Zoom and T-stop markings.



Also at IBC2016, Angénieux – in collaboration with Band Pro Film & Digital and Jebsen Industrial Technology Co – unveiled the Type EZ Series for cine and broadcast productions.

Designed on the basis of a same modular concept (IRO technology) for the Optimo 44-440 A2S, the EZ Type Series can fit either Super 35mm digital motion picture cameras or cameras with larger sensors such as Full Frame or VistaVision.

The fast T2 lens opening provides a greater control of depth of field, while users are able to convert lens mounts.

The Angenieux Type EZ-1 is a standard zoom lens with a zoom factor of 3x. When configured for S35mm cameras, the focal range and aperture is set to 30-90mm F1.9 / T2. By exchanging the rear lens group, the lens becomes a 45-135mm F2.8 / T3 covering an image circle up to 46mm diagonal.

The Angenieux Type EZ-2 is a wide zoom lens with a zoom factor of 2.7x. When configured for S35mm cameras, the focal range and aperture is set to 15-40mm F1.9 / T2. By exchanging the rear lens group, the lens becomes a 22-60mm F2.8 / T3 covering an image circle up to 46mm diagonal.
