Edit 123 Streamlines Workflow With ContentAgent

Glasgow-based post production facility Edit 123 has automated and streamlined its file-based workflow with ContentAgent, supplied by root6 Scotland.

One of the country's longest established facilities, Edit 123 was founded more than 30 years ago and provides a full range of postproduction services through offline, online, grading and graphics. While the company's primary area of work is mainstream TV, Edit 123 also provides crew and camera hire for productions including sports news coverage of Scottish football.

The Avid-based facility with an ISIS 7000 network at its heart has deployed ROOT6 Technology's ContentAgent to automate a range of tasks from ingest to delivery as Bill Fairweather explains: "These days, a major part of a post house's function is the management of large amounts of clients' media, from ingest through to back-up and archive. ContentAgent delivers substantial time and efficiency advantages in this respect.

"Specifically, the automated ingest enables us to simultaneously create multiple formats including QuickTime while eliminating the potential for human error. By using ContentAgent for the many different transcodes across our workflows without ingest, we are also able to free up our Avid workstations for more productive tasks."

Accredited by AMWA for AS-11 UK DPP deliverables, ContentAgent will be used for this by Edit 123 with Vidchecker integration for automated file-based QC. The facility has also taken the popular Insert Edit option which enables necessary late changes to be made to video or audio in AS-11 UK DPP files created with ContentAgent.

As Fairweather puts it: "Being able to drop in content and metadata to AS-11 files without the need for complete re-wrapping or recreating the file saves valuable time. Also, once the master file has been made ContentAgent can automate the simultaneous creation of other delivery formats including viewing copies or DVDs, for example."

ContentAgent is being used on a number of Edit 123's current projects including 8 x 45min 'Prison: First and Last 24 Hours' (STV Productions for Sky), 8 x 45min 'Love it or List it' (Raise The Roof Productions for Channel 4), 25 x 45min 'Money for Nothing' (Friel Kean Films for BBC) and 'Location Location Location' series 18 (IWC Media for Channel 4).
