Tern TV To Produce New Arts Series

BBC Four has commissioned Tern TV to produce a new formatted arts show, The Art Detectives.

The 3x60' series will be produced out of Tern's Belfast office.

It will follow historian and art dealer, Dr Bendor Grosvenor, and art historian, Jacky Klein, as they track down lost and hidden public paintings from local museums and galleries across Britain in order to bring them back to life.

Scouring public museums and great houses across the country, the duo will delve into vaults and storerooms to reveal secret stashes of forgotten art and perhaps some sleeping masterpieces. A specialist conservation team will use the latest technology to decode and restore the pieces, and providing clues for Bendor and Jacky to identify the pictures. The team will solve the provenance of the artworks before they are valued and hung back in their museums for the nation to enjoy.

Harry Bell, Creative Director, Tern Television, said: "This series, rooted in authentic expertise and real life decoding of art mysteries, will bring the story of our great paintings to life. The Art Detectives will help rediscover some of these amazing lost treasures through science and good old fashioned art sleuthing."

The Art Detectives was commissioned by Mark Bell for BBC Four and the BBC executive producer is Emma Cahusac. It is produced and directed by Spike Geilinger and executive produced by Ishbel MacDonald, Brendan Hughes and Harry Bell for Tern TV. Working with the new online resource Art UK. The series is presented by Dr Bendor Grosvenor and Jacky Klein.
