Tern Television uproots to Northern Ireland for new gardening series

Scottish indie Tern Television has been commissioned by BBC NI’s Fergus Keeling to produce a gardening series based on the successful format of their long-running and much-loved 'The Beechgrove Garden' (BBC Scotland).
Situated in a home garden in the Greenmount Agricultural College campus in Antrim, The Greenmount Garden (14 x 30) will address the unique culture, climate and community of Northern Ireland, which has more gardens per head of population than anywhere else in the UK.
As well as developing their home garden, The Greenmount Garden’s team of horticultural experts will seek out Northern Ireland’s finest private gardens, and give topical weekly gardening hints tips and advice. The team will also tackle problems large and small in Northern Ireland gardens for Northern Ireland gardeners.
Presenter John Cushnie, well known to UK listeners from 'Gardener’s Question Time', said: “This is what Northern Ireland gardeners have been waiting years and years for, a proper hands on gardening programme. Finally a gardening programme, about gardening.”
Fergus Keeling, Commissioning Editor Broadcast for BBC NI, said: “The Greenmount Garden is a back to basics gardening series hosted by local gardening experts who will inject enthusiastic know-how and gardening advice into each episode. It's great that we have an association with Greenmount Agricultural College where we will plant a BBC garden for use in each episode. Tern Television has substantial know-how in this area - much in evidence when we asked them to fast track this idea and bring it forward by a year.”
