All Studio AC Is Not The Same!

News Image
We developed the unique Silentair Serenity system for sound sensitive spaces, such as studios, with the thought that this one product may be a perfect solution for every studio large or small.

This thought turned out to be a bit optimistic, as we soon found out that almost every studio has a different requirement. The list kept growing:

1). The AC must be able to be left on during shooting
2). The AC must maintain the selected temperature
3). It must be easy to use.

These were the basis of the 'must-haves' I set myself. But, and it's a big but, I later found out that other things also need to be addressed to create the perfect scripted studio air conditioning system.

High on the list is draughts, or rather the lack of them. It's no good controlling the studio temperature when gusts of conditioned air makes actors' hair blow all over the place. So a better way to distribute air needed to be developed to fit onto the Serenity (must-have No 4).

Temperature flexibility was next on the wish list. Traditionally AC in large studios try to create the same temperature throughout the space, so if a high thermal output of tungsten lighting is positioned at one end of the studio but nothing at the other end, it really does create major problems. This can result in increased levels of irritability and general annoyance of everyone in the studio, (must eliminate No 5).

Sometimes increased heating or cooling is required in a particular area – say around a new temporary set – but not all the time after shooting is complete.
This is a common problem but very difficult to solve with a one temperature system. To combat this we have developed a unique feature in our fixed AC systems, which allow additional fan coils to be added into the main system when needed, then unplugged and removed when not needed. Simple, easy and very effective, a true plug and play solution (No 6).

Naturally, our product development and knowledge has come a long way since the launch of the silent Serenity system and we believe we supply the most advanced AC and ventilation systems for broadcast in the world, which of course includes all of the points raised above and a few more besides. Have a look below before you disagree:

a). Our system operational noise level is below NR15 – and we guarantee it
b). Designed for continuous operation 24/7 including shooting periods
c). No reduction in output
d). All our systems are completely draught free
e). Floor areas in large studios are divided into zones which can be individually temperature controlled
f). Additional temporary fan coils can be plugged into the fixed system when more capacity is required in a certain part of the studio. The fan coil can then unplugged and removed if set positions change (optional)
g). Full heating and cooling operation
h). Range of silent fresh air supplies
i). Hot air recovery
j). Major energy savings
