Vizrt To Bring Fast and Efficient MAM Production To IBC2015

News Image
Vizrt, will showcase several improvements to its MAM system Viz One that promotes faster production workflows for the systems' users on its booth at IBC2015.

Production using H.264

Viz One will now be able to support the use of H.264 compressed streams as a production format and not just as a proxy. H.264 compression is particularly suited for online video production and for customers shooting with modern, smaller camera setups like DSLRs. Producing content with 10 Mbit H.264 can save up to ten times more disk space when compared to first generation HD codecs such as 100 Mbit DVCPRO HD. Viz One’s support of this codec enables customers’ storage to remain as cost effective as possible. It also allows them to store significantly more media.

Delivering 4K/UHD variants

At the show Vizrt will showcase the ease of delivery of 4K/UHD content variants for use on VOD platforms when using Viz One’s latest generation transcoding and encoding toolset Coder. Users in Viz One can now simply select a storage destination they want and Coder transcodes all of the required variants. Vizrt will also show a new version of Drop Desk, a tool that allows the publishing of video online directly from a newsroom control system. This now uses Coder for transcoding the VOD variants and allows changes to be made to the setup easily through a web-based interface.

Generating transmission packages

Logger, Viz One's logging tool now supports the creation of video transmission packages to represent variants of video content for on-air use. These packages act as a very efficient alternative to traditional workflows - new versions of the video can be created without rendering and by only referencing existing media in the master assets. This saves disk space as it avoids unnecessary replications of any media. It also allows operators to address common compliance issues by just updating the segmentation of the package instead of doing additional time-consuming compliance edits.

Multilingual metadata spell checking

Viz One can now be configured to spell check an asset's metadata and logs in multiple languages. Spell checking is performed against central dictionaries which allow customers to add their own language-specific exceptions on a global level. The metadata forms support several languages even when mixed in the same forms. This spell checking increases the quality of manually entered metadata and helps improve search results.

 AS-11 DPP MXF Metadata

Booth 7.A20 will also demonstrate AS-11 DPP MXF metadata support in Viz One. Vizrt is an official member of the DPP Compliance Program and participated in the development of AS-11 DPP compliance. The metadata scheme and the MXF AS-11 standard for contribution means that broadcasters can exchange assets and not just files. Viz One now easily recognises and manages AS-11 DPP metadata and is able to handle any metadata field in an MXF.

SwiftStack Object Storage integration

Vizrt will also show a pre-release of upcoming integration with SwiftStack object storage which includes unmodified OpenStack Swift at its core. Viz One will support SwiftStack's unique storage capabilities, taking advantage of its flexibility, resilience and compelling economics.

Increased REST API efficiency

Vizrt will demonstrate a number of simple plugin integrations written with the REST API to help automate production using external data sources, including:

• Online story publishing from Viz Mosart. Stories created in the studio automation system Viz Mosart can automatically be republished online using both meta-graphics and clean video.

• OPTA Sports Feed Parsing. Highlights for incoming sports content can be automatically published to online platforms using real-time log data from OPTA that’s stored as a log in Viz One.

Using a SAN, Viz Engine and Viz One will work together to enable the playback of growing clips for use on-air without the need for transferring any media.

Vizrt's Viz One MAM solutions will be on display on the Vizrt booth (7.A20) during IBC2015 at the RAI, Amsterdam between 11 - 15 September.
