continued from Part 1

The system builds upon Skype TX software from Microsoft, featuring an additional set of live production tools such as call recording.

"TalkShow and Skype TX allow producers to fundamentally change the way shows are made by taking audience participation to a whole new level," said Dr. Andrew Cross, president and chief technology officer at NewTek.

"Newsrooms with immediate access to experts the world over, fans interacting live with their favorite sports teams, game shows with live video participants, corporate meetings with live executives from remote offices, guest professors from across the globe appearing in classrooms – the potential is beyond the imagination and I personally can’t wait to see it."

The 1RU integrated hardware and software solution is broadcast ready, offering two channels of HD-SDI I/O (one in, one out), dual channel Ethernet connectivity, SDI-embedded audio and professional XLR audio support.

The latest versions of TriCaster and 3Play were also prominently on display, including the new TriCaster Mini. The Mini allows users to work with media content and mix it into a production. It enables the use of up to four HDMI camcorders for live, on-camera action. Users can include video clips, graphics, music and sound files and capture a computer screen, video call, or files from an AirPlay device. Files and sources can be mixed in real-time with the TriCaster Mini software.

G-Technology demoed its G-RAID with Thunderbolt 2 and USB 3.0 and G-RAID with USB 3.0 only. The new G-RAID solutions are RAID 0/1 storage solutions designed for the demanding creative projects in the field. Featuring an internal RAID controller, solid all-aluminum enclosure and quiet cooling fan technology, both solutions come with two removable, 7,200RPM enterprise-class hard drives. With transfer rates up to 440MB/s, the G-RAID with Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 easily supports multi-stream HD, 2K and compressed 4K video workflows.

The company also showed its Evolution Series, a rugged family including the new G-DRIVE ev ATC with Thunderbolt, the G-DRIVE ev ATC with USB 3.0, and the G-DRIVE ev RaW. The outer casing is sleek, yet robust and rugged and features watertight drive compartments and drop-resistance.

Quantum's big announcement was that its StorNext Pro Foundation - a new integrated, shared storage system for smaller workgroups - is now available in Europe. StorNext Pro Foundation is the latest addition to the company's StorNext Pro Solutions line and is built on Quantum’s StorNext 5 collaboration and workflow software.

StorNext Pro Foundation provides full Xsan compatibility, enabling smaller workgroups to refresh or upgrade their Xsan storage environments. Current StorNext users can also leverage StorNext Pro Foundation to add smaller workgroups for graphics, rendering and EFX.

StorNext Pro Foundation comes in either 48TB or 96TB configurations, which support five and seven simultaneous Xsan/Windows/ Linux SAN clients, including two Windows/Linux SAN clients as core system components. Either configuration can support up to four file systems (volumes) comprising
100 million files. The 48TB configuration is upgradable to 96TB.

Ever impressive, TSL showcased its IDS range of Integrated Display Systems. The system works to bring all broadcast functions - clocks, tally lamps, production timers and post-it notes – together onto a single display or touchscreen.

The IDS system can display clocks, multiple time-zones, up/down timers and support offset time recording while keeping all devices on the network synchronised using either NTP or LTC. It offers seamless integration displaying information from and interacting with a range of equipment and control systems. GPIO and DMX based control can be added directly to any IDS system using TSL's IP based I/O expansion devices.

The system can display a wide range of dynamic information alongside clocks and timers. Display layouts are based on customers' own screen designs and can be shown on any connected IDS display interface. The IDS Content Manager allows users to manage and distribute large volumes of digital content to IDS connected display through a web interface.

HHB Communications announced a deal with German professional audio manufacturer RTW. RTW CEO Andreas Tweitmann commented: “The DPP’s adoption of EBU R128 loudness standards has made the UK a very important market for innovative audio loudness tools. HHB is the UK’s leading authority on loudness technology and we are confident in their expertise to deliver the best sales and technical support to top broadcast and post production facilities.”

HHB showed RTW’s latest broadcast audio products, including the TouchMonitor hardware range and the new Loudness Tools software, a new range of products that provides RTW meters as standard-format plug-ins for Windows and Mac OS.

HHB also hosted the world debut of two new broadcast audio products from Yellowtec. The new PUC Mic LEA integrates the real-time LEA DSP Engine from the iXm digital recording microphone into an audio interface. Yellowtec’s LEA technology allows clear recordings without post-processing by capturing levels without clipping or artefacts. A look-ahead peak limiter avoids ADC distortion by converting the microphone signal twice.

HHB debuted iXm Connect, a new recording iOS app for the iXm digital recording microphone. The app facilitates the exchange of data between the iXm microphone and iOS devices like the iPhone. The iXm Connect allows editing, archiving and several features like the use of meta tags.

The company also demoed NUGEN Audio’s advanced tools, including a preview of the upcoming Loudness Toolkit 2, available in April, designed to aid in meeting the EBU R128 standards. New technologies included over 70 new features and enhancements for NUGEN Audio’s industry leading Loudness Toolkit. An update for LMB Processor to enable EBU R128 S1 Compliance and an MXF extension update for DPP AS-11 was also displayed.

HHB’s Avid specialists showed the latest plug-ins and NUGEN Audio loudness software with Pro Tools and the Avid S6 control surface
