Root6 and Sony announce strategic partnership

Soho-based root6 and Sony Business Europe UK have announced a new strategic partnership to deliver and support Sony's range of workflow-enhancing productivity tools to the UK broadcast and postproduction market.
"Root6 has always sought to deliver the very best of available technologies to its customers," John Harris of root6 said today.
"We are convinced that Sony has the most innovative workflow solutions tools to help our customers develop their businesses more effectively."
The Soho based company said the decision to partner Sony comes after an 18-month period of research into the current sea-change occurring in the UK broadcast and postproduction market.
"Today, broadcasters and facilities have a team approach to large projects, with many editors working simultaneously on common material over a network. Those facilities who create more efficient and productive workflow environments will be best placed to gain commercial advantage," Mr Harris explained.
"After extensive investigation, we believe that Sony is uniquely positioned to drive workflow innovation forward from the very point of acquisition."
Rob Newton from Sony Business Europe UK added: "We are like-minded companies which share a desire to deliver top-rate customer service through the provision of advanced technology solutions and professional support. We look forward to working closely with the root6 team."
In tandem with the partnership, Sony are also scheduled to preview their latest revolutionary production tools at NAB.
"We believe that Sony will steal the show in Las Vegas with workflow innovation on an unprecedented scale," said John Harris of root6.
"Sony's ability to integrate MXF connectivity, metadata systemisation and 30 times real-time data transfer within a robust and affordable production system will revolutionise our industry by introducing a hitherto unachievable level of productivity. This is going to be one of the most significant events in our industry since video replaced film 25 years ago."
Root6 have recently provided specialist consultancy and editorial support on mission-critical projects including feature films 'Tomb Raider' and the latest Bond movie, ' Die Another Day.'
Similarly the company have been involved with UK ratings-topping reality TV shows such as 'Big Brother' and 'Fame Academy', who have relied on 24/7 root6 support over multiple series.
