Punch & Judy Gets Modern Makeover

Wags, Benefit Cheats and The Royals will feature in a modern day revamp of the Punch and Judy show as comedy channel Gold celebrate the 350th anniversary of seaside slapstick.
Award winning comedy writers have been brought in by Gold to help re-boot the format that will feature subject matters ranging from the X-Factor to recession via fashion and politics.
Writers John Phelps and Gary Lawson (My Family and Birds of a Feather), drag the classic show kicking and screaming into the 21st century introducing new characters and modern puppets, such as Punch the benefit cheat, a WAG Judy, Judge Cowell and ineffectual politician called Cleggy the Clown.

The writers have reduced the running time to 25 minutes and injected modern day, fun storylines, which will see Prince Harry rescue The Baby from an ageing pop star with a pension for collecting children.
The show will premiere at London's Covent Garden on Thursday 16th August before touring British beaches this summer, with Great Yarmouth (23 August) and Scarborough Beach (24 August) the next ports of call.
