Rondo Media's Rownd A Rownd Commissioned For Landmark 15th Series
Leading Welsh independent production company, Rondo Media, has been commissioned by S4C to produce a 15th series of hit drama Rownd a Rownd, cementing it as Wales' longest-running youth drama series.
Rownd a Rownd, which launched in 1995, delves into issues affecting young people today, from theft, illness, drugs and death, to friendship and love. Each episode follows the lives of four young people, their friends and family, as they deal with daily life on local paper rounds.
Rondo Media has also developed an interactive website for the series, which they created and manage in-house with a team of web content providers and scriptwriters. The Rownd a Rownd website encourages audiences to engage with the characters, creating a community for the drama on social networking sites such as Bebo and MySpace. The site also includes behind the scenes footage, downloadable content and episode guides.
Robin Evans, Chairman of Rondo Media, said: "We have come a long way since day one, as we've endeavoured to ensure the format remains fresh and relevant for today's youth audience - from constructing a purpose-built set to developing an interactive website. Rownd a Rownd has regularly appeared in the S4C top 20 programmes and we are proud to produce a drama that still engages young people today."
Rhian Gibson, S4C's Director of Commissioning, added: "Rownd a Rownd continues to resonate with S4C teen audiences, with its gripping storylines, popular characters and strong production values. We're delighted to commission a further series of the drama, which also serves as a successful nursery for Welsh production and acting talent."
Rownd a Rownd is a Rondo Media production for S4C. It is executive produced by Robin Evans and Susan Waters for Rondo Media and commissioned by Rhian Gibson for S4C. In 2008, Rownd a Rownd won the Bafta Cymru award for Best Youth Programme.
