Danmon Systems Group Wins TV News Production System Contract From TV2/Nord

Danish broadcaster TV2/Nord has awarded a contract to Danmon Systems Group A/S for the delivery and implementation of a file-based television news production system at the station's studios in Aabybro.
TV2/Nord transmits to northern Jutland and is one of eight regional stations in the TV2 network.
Centred on Quantel's sQ system, the new installation will enable TV2/Nord journalists to ingest content into Quantel servers. Quantel sQ Record and Mission allow control of baseband recording and file ingest.
Mission also provides facilities for scheduled baseband (SDI) recordings and manages ingest of a wide range of different file formats to sQ shared storage.
Preben Kristiansen, TV2/Nord Technical Manager, said: "This system will provide our journalists with highly efficient pre-editing tools and an easier workflow in their daily operations. The sQ interface is flexible and very user-friendly, allowing our staff to work with any news story in many different ways. This means that news reports can be quickly and easily re-versioned into short news clips, as longer magazine stories or for web output."
The solution designed by Danmon Systems Group includes a complete media asset management system centred on Quantel sQ 400 main and auxiliary media servers with a total of eight inputs, eight outputs and nine file ingest ports.
These can be connected up to 23 journalist sQ cut sets, eight high-end craft edit stations and up to eight channels of playout. Three portable edit systems running on laptop PCs will also be provided. Additional infrastructure will include three voice-over booths, each be equipped to permit direct-to-timeline input recording. Miranda distribution interfaces will also be deployed.
Peter Thomsen, Project Director at Danmon Systems Group, said: "The combination of content acquisition to Panasonic P2 solid-state media with Quantel sQ archiving and editing creates a system which is highly efficient and extremely versatile. The system will deliver the power and flexibility expected to file-based technology combined with the reliability of a proven broadcast-quality platform."
Work on the new installation is now in progress for scheduled completion in April.
Established in 1988 as a public-service broadcaster, TV2 Denmark is one of the nation's most popular television networks. TV2/Nord is one of eight regional channels along with TV Syd (serving southern Jutland), TV2/Fyn (Funen), TV2/Øst (eastern Zealand), TV2/Lorry (northern Zealand and Copenhagen), TV/Midt-Vest (central and western Jutland), TV2/Østjylland (eastern Jutland) and TV2/Bornholm.
In addition to its main TV2 channel and TV2 News, the network also has four daughter channels serving various sectors of the Danish population: TV 2 Zulu (youth programming), TV 2 Charlie (aimed at mature audiences), TV2 Film and TV 2 Sport. These are augmented by TV2 Sputnik, an internet-based pay-per-view channel which commenced broadcasting in December 2004.
Danmon Systems Group A/S was founded in 1981 and is a supplier of consultancy, systems and services to television and radio broadcasters, production studios and post-production houses, as well as to the corporate, academic and government sectors.
