Bulgarian Telecommunications Company Overhauls Broadcasting Network With Harris Transmitters

Harris Corporation, an international communications and information technology company, has been awarded a contract to deliver nine Atlas series high-power TV transmitters and four Platinum Z10 FM radio transmitters to the Bulgarian Telecommunications Company (BTC Group), which is headquartered in Sofia, Bulgaria.
BTC Group is one of the largest private companies in Bulgaria, and the main telecommunications operator and broadcasting network provider in the country.
The new transmitters are a critical element of BTC's program to modernise the TV and radio infrastructure across Bulgaria - upgrading BTC with the latest transmission technology and providing for the upcoming transition of their terrestrial network to DVB-T.
To support the modernisation of its network, BTC selected Harris Atlas TV transmitters, ranging from 10 kW to 40 kW and 10 kW Platinum z10FM radio transmitters with MicroMax exciters.
All of the TV transmitters are digital-ready and can be easily upgraded in the field. With the support of the local Harris dealer, NewTek Ltd, Harris also will perform the de-installation of old transmitters and the installation of the new Harris transmitters, together with training and commissioning on-site.
Rumen Marinov, Functional Director at BTC, said: "We chose the Harris transmitters because they provide us with much lower operating costs and enhanced performance. As this is a significant overhaul of our infrastructure, we wanted to collaborate with an industry that could leverage from its wealth of experience and expertise to deliver a complete solution that met our unique requirements."
Richard Scott, Vice President, Europe, the Middle East and Africa operations for Harris Broadcast Communications, said: "This is a significant sale for Harris Broadcast, and we are pleased to have been chosen to support BTC's major upgrade program in Bulgaria. BTC is taking the lead in modernising its facilities to accommodate the growing multiplatform delivery opportunities in Eastern Europe, and Harris has the solutions BTC requires as they modernise their transmission infrastructure."
Harris Broadcast Communications offers products, systems and services that provide interoperable workflow solutions that span the entire media delivery chain. The Harris ONE solution brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that are ideal for emerging media business models and for customers upgrading media operations to digital and high-definition services.
