Harris Corporation provides Tribune Broadcasting with new EDI solution

Harris Corporation has announced that the Harris Broadcast Management System (BMS) now supports the Tribune Broadcasting-developed Open Standard for Electronic Data Interface (EDI).
EDI bridges the information gap that exists between companies using different computer systems and enables better data and information exchange. Electronic orders can enter the traffic system more rapidly than a manual order, helping stations more effectively manage the demand on their advertising inventory. In less than two days, Tribune received more than 900 orders electronically from ITN for 14 different Tribune television stations. This marks the first time an agency has been able to send electronic orders directly to a Tribune TV station, replacing the labour-intensive process of sending them via fax.
"These orders arrive electronically at the Tribune stations and are delivered directly into the traffic system for approval. This marks another major step in the overall e-business initiative, and significantly cuts down the time and improves the accuracy of the entire order process for our stations," said Tonina Grisanti, Director of Broadcast Operations for Tribune Broadcasting. "Tribune will continue to develop this process for all of our 26 stations' local business. In addition, we will be working with many other agencies, and our national reps, TeleRep, HRP and MMT, in order to take full advantage of electronic ordering capabilities."
The goal of this new Harris BMS EDI solution is to streamline business processes between ad agencies and broadcast stations. Immediate savings are achieved in the form of reduced manual entry time - the orders arrive electronically with no manual intervention, saving each station hours of keying the orders into the system.
