PlayBox Joins Playout 247 in London Initiative

An international communications and information technology company serving the broadcast, corporate and digital signage markets, PlayBox Technology, has partnered with Playout247 to produce an advanced playout operation in the heart of London's media communications industry.
This now supports 24 conventional satellite channels and 38 internet channels at full satellite broadcast quality; and has proved the new state-of-the-art playout technologies resulting from a two-year development project.
Playout247 runs all channels continuously, 24/7, under two departments.
One is for the satellite services where playlist schedules are delivered by the channels and used directly in the PlayBox playout automation workflow.
This then provides all the essential operations from ingest through to playout and graphics, and a scheduling solution that ensuring the material is available in the AirBox playout servers ahead of schedule, and played to air on time.
The second department is responsible for the IPTV / internet TV division that operates in a similar way to the satellite channels but the 38 channels are output on IP and delivered to the internet.
Finding existing IPTV services lacking, Playout247 developed its own CDN (content delivery network) which, according to Matt Vidmar, Chairman, "is really fine-tuned to deliver broadcast quality to broadband homes".
He continued: "The key element is PlayBox Technology with whom we have been working very closely for the last three years.
"We jointly arrived at the latest version of the software which we dare to confirm we are very happy with - and we also dare to reveal it is the most technologically advanced, delivering a truly IP-based solution."
He said that Playbox continued to work with Playout247 to contribute to a totally IP-based broadcast data centre, the basics of which have now been stress-tested with the existing channels.
Vassil Lefterov, Chief Exective Officer PlayBox Technology, commented: "We are delighted to be working with Playout247 on this groundbreaking project as there is clearly a big future for IPTV and video delivery over the internet.
"We have been able to put ideas into practise and add to our powerful playout technology base and come up with solution that really works well in this new environment."
