Aquarium Studios Announces Expansion And Refurbishment of Worldwide Studios

Audio post-production company Aquarium, has announced that it has completed the refurbishment of part of the legendary Worldwide Studios to provide them with two further studios offering, for the first time, full Dolby accredited sound.
The refurbishment of the studios, located in St Anne's Court, Soho, London, comes at a time of considerable growth and success for the BAFTA Award-winning company, which boasts around fifteen sound designers and mixers.
In the main studio, Aquarium has installed a 24-fader DFC Gemini, enabling the company to provide a wide range of mixing facilities for high-end dramas and documentaries. Studio 2 has been re-generated to the highest specifications as a high quality ADR and Foley recording room. Other equipment available at the studio complex includes a Dolby accredited JBL surround kit and a raft of additional offboard gear. There is also a 35/16mm film projector and a full set of multi-track recording and replay machines are full interchangeable between 16mm and 35mm film.
Commenting on the refurbishment, Peter Joly, MD at Aquarium, said: "It's a crying shame that these studios, which were at the centre of TV production for over 30 years, have fallen out of favour with the post community. Our reason for acquiring them is not only to bring Worldwide Studios and its reputation to a wider client base, but to re-energise this great recording space for the industry both now and in the future."
Ben Baird, Founder and Head of Sound at Aquarium, who won a BAFTA Craft Award this month for sound for War Oratorio (More 4/Oxford Film & Television) adds: "As our clients develop and move on to bigger and better things, combined with the world's increasing demand for bigger, better and surroundier sound tracks, these new studios, that once had Lee Marvin recording ADR in for goodness sake, allow us to continue to provide the level of thought, interest and ability that everyone has come to expect from us.
The Worldwide Studios complex was constructed over 30 years ago and played host to some of the country's most memorable feature films, TV series and documentaries, including 'A Room With A View' (Merchant Ivory) and 'A Private Function' (Handmade Films) to ITV's 'London's Burning', 'Inspector Morse' and 'The Inspector Lynley Mysteries'.
