Ascent Media Goes Colossal

An award-winning provider of comprehensive broadcast automation and content management solutions, OmniBus Systems, has announced that Ascent Media has expanded the Colossus playout capability at its Chiswick Park, London, facility.
Ascent's Colossus system has been upgraded to handle up to 96 audio channels per video channel from an Omneon server dedicated to playout for a major broadcaster with multi-lingual programming throughout Europe.
"The additional channel capacity in our Colossus system greatly simplifies the media management workflow in what is quite a complex operation," said David Roulson, head of engineering at Ascent Media.
"We currently have up to 22 channels of audio for any piece of video content, a number that is expected to grow.
"In the past, we've handled that by duplicating content, which made the media management unnecessarily complicated - but the versatile and scalable nature of Colossus allowed us to streamline the process for maximum efficiency."
Ascent Media is the world's largest provider of integrated global services for the creation, management and distribution of media content, serving major film studios, independent producers, broadcast networks, cable channels, advertising agencies and other content producers and aggregators from more than 70 facilities worldwide.
OmniBus Colossus is the market-leading multi-channel automation system, providing a robust and scalable solution to broadcasters across the globe.
A full-featured automated transmission product, Colossus incorporates schedule management, event building and transitions, timeline monitoring, live-event management and cache management.
