Trinidad & Tobago Lures Global Film Industry With 30% Tax Rebate
Come and visit the Trinidad and Tobago Film Office at Broadcast LIVE to find out more about this exciting opportunity - the twin island nation of Trinidad & Tobago has announced the first ever set of tax incentives aimed at attracting TV companies across the globe to film in both countries.
"The new film rebates are set at a rate higher than many other more established film territories and range from 12.5% for productions costing up to £260,000, to 15% for productions costing up to £520,000 and a further 30% rebate for productions over £520,000. This can result in savings of up to £50,000. Commenting on the launch of the tax rebates, Carla Foderingham, CEO, Trinidad & Tobago Film Commission, said: "It is our intention to create a vibrant film & TV industry that will see Trinidad & Tobago become the premier production centre of the Caribbean. We are making a late entry as an active film-producing country and, as such, it's a really exciting time for us all. I would implore film-makers and location managers in the UK and Europe to consider us for future productions.
"Ethnically and culturally diverse, Trinidad & Tobago is very different to other Caribbean islands. Boasting Hindu mandirs, Muslim mosques and British colonial houses, the countries landscapes are as different as its mix of people as well as being easily accessible."
Situated below the hurricane belt, Trinidad & Tobago offers a tropical climate all year with a guaranteed seven hours of sunshine every day. The dry season runs from January to June and the rainy season starts in July and ends in December. In addition, there are several state-of-the-art production outfits offering a range of film and video services, including location and talent scouting, editing and post-production special effects.
Recent productions have been filmed in Trinidad & Tobago by E!, The Travel Channel US and the BBC. Merchant Ivory filmed on location in Trinidad & Tobago for its feature film 'The Mystic Masseur' in 2000.
