               Fresh Programming From FremantleMedia
FremantleMedia Enterprises has announced a new slate of programming as it prepares to attend the LA Screenings.
Armed with the best new dramas and factual programming, FME will entice buyers with its impressive slate of brand new shows. Leading the field is ‘The Best Years’, a 13 x 60’ drama series from Blueprint Entertainment, produced in association with US broadcaster The N, the night-time network for teens owned by MTV Networks, and CanWest MediaWorks’ Global Television in Canada.
Created and executive produced by Aaron Martin, award-winning writer and show runner on Degrassi: The Next Generation, The Best Years’ production values are as high in quality as its writing is sharp, making this drama the one to watch. Set to premiere this summer on The N - as their biggest ever programme launch - and Global Television in Canada May 22, FME has worldwide distribution rights for both TV (excluding North America) and DVD (excluding Canada).
Also produced by Blueprint Entertainment and set to launch in the region at the Screenings will be the dark, funny and unique scripted series, Love You To Death (13 x 30’), starring John Waters (director of Serial Mom, Hairspray, Cry-Baby). In his television series debut as the ‘Groom Reaper’, Waters tells the twisted, inspired-by-reality tales of spouses who have killed their loved, or not-so-loved ones. The series premiered on Global Television in Canada and on Court TV in the US (as 'Til Death Do Us Part) in March, where it attracted more than 1 million viewers upon debut, surpassing the Court TV prime time average by 50 per cent for all viewers.
The first of three documentaries from Atlantic Productions also bound for LA Screenings reveals the fascinating true story behind the undercover mission that exposed the west’s most prolific and dangerous double agent. 'Superspy: The Man Who Betrayed The West' is the story of Robert Hanssen, the FBI double agent responsible for the West’s worst ever security breach, selling secrets worth billions of dollars that were passed on to Osama Bin Laden and used to facilitate the planning of 9/11.
As NASA outlines its plans to return to the moon for the first time in over 30 years, 'Apollo 11: The Untold Story' and 'Apollo 13: The Inside Story' reveal the remarkable untold stories of the two most famous space missions. Apollo 11: The Untold Story, an Atlantic co-production with Five, Discovery Communications, La7 and FremantleMedia, goes behind the public story of this legendary mission to reveal the untold account of how close the first moon landing came to disaster. Through first-hand testimony from Buzz Aldrin and key mission personnel, this critically acclaimed documentary presents a tale of primitive computer technology, human errors and mechanical failures that nearly resulted in the loss of the crew.
David Ellender, CEO, FremantleMedia Enterprises commented on the LA Screenings slate, saying: "With established star power and hot young talent, The Best Years and Love You To Death offer something for everyone. Love, death and passion prevail in the acclaimed anthology series starring John Waters, while The Best Years is compulsive viewing from one of the US’ biggest show-runners, and we are very proud to have both on board. With their indisputably high production values and immense ‘watchability’ these dramas will make their mark at LA Screenings, as will the outstanding documentaries from Atlantic Productions."
