47th Monte-Carlo Television Festival

'Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee,' an HBO Films presentation of a Wolf Films/Traveler’s Rest Films production, has been selected to open the 47th Monte-Carlo Television Festival. The epic television movie is based on Dee Brown’s seminal nonfiction book of the same name.
The 47th Monte-Carlo Television Festival, under the honorary presidency of Prince Albert II, will be held 10-14 June 2007. The Opening Ceremony is scheduled for Sunday June 10.
“We are extremely honoured to present this movie for its international premiere screening. HBO represents creativity and quality at every stage of television production,” CEO David Tomatis said.
“The Festival is one of the preeminent international showcases for today’s global television programming, and I am personally thrilled and honored that we have been selected for the Opening Ceremony,” said executive producer Dick Wolf.
“We are proud to have brought Dee Brown’s acclaimed book to the screen and to shed light on an important period in American history. We are delighted to return to the Festival, and I cannot think of a more prestigious venue to unveil the film to an international audience,” said HBO Films president Colin Callender.
The five-day Monte-Carlo Television Festival will take place at the Grimaldi Forum of Monaco and will be attended by talent and professionals from the creative areas of television throughout the world.
Dick Wolf, executive producer of 'Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee,' will be attending along with executive producer Tom Thayer, director Yves Simoneau ('Napoleon'), and stars Adam Beach (who also stars on Wolf’s NBC series 'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit') and August Schellenberg ('The New World').
The cast includes Aidan Quinn (Empire Falls), Adam Beach (Flags of Our Fathers), and August Schellenberg (The New World.)
HBO Films Vice President Sam Martin is the executive in charge of production.
The film powerfully explores the economic, political and social pressures that underpinned the opening of the American West and the tragic impact this expansion had on American Indian culture. Daniel Giat (Emmy-nominated for HBO Films’ 'Path to War') wrote the screenplay, based on the book by Dee Alexander Brown.
Other highlights of the 47th Monte Carlo Festival include the international television program competition and Golden Nymph Awards Ceremony, premiere screenings, glamorous receptions and parties organized by some of the major European networks and studios which all contribute to the magical atmosphere of Monaco.
More than 300 journalists from around the world are present to cover this unique international television festival attended by the creative forces of the industry.
