London Films To Compete For Golden Lion At Venice International Film Festival

Two major London-shot films 'Children of Men' and 'The Queen' will be competing for the Golden Lion in the 63rd Venice International Film Festival.
Alfonso Cuaron’s futuristic thriller Children of Men was shot extensively in London in locations including Woolwich and the City of London. The film stars Clive Owen, Julianne Moore and Michael Caine. The Queen directed by Stephen Frears stars Helen Mirren as Queen Elizabeth II in a portrait of the Royal Family in the days following the death of Princess Diana.
Short film What 'Does Your Daddy Do?' has also been selected for the Corto Cotissimo competition section of the Festival. The short, written and directed by Martin Stitt explores a married man’s involvement with a paedophile ring and how it affects his previously healthy and happy relationship with his own children. The film was funded by the Newham Film Fund, and also received funding from the Film London Film-makers Festival Fund to produce a 35mm print for the festival.
Adrian Wootton, Chief Executive of Film London said: "We are thrilled that the UK has yet again produced a collection of high quality films at this year’s Biennale. 2006 has already proved successful for London-based productions and we wish them the best of luck."
Film London is the capital’s film and media agency. Film London sustains, promotes and develops London as a major international film-making and film cultural capital. This includes all the screen industries based in London – film, television, video, commercials and new interactive media.
