RTE win back the Champions League

UEFA, the governing body for European football, have accepted RTÉ's bid for exclusive live coverage of Wednesday nights in the world's premier club competition, with additional rights to screen highlights of the matches on the same night.
It is understood that live coverage of Tuesday nights will be screened by TV3, in addition to UTV.
In a complex bidding process, with a number of possible permutations, RTÉ were bidding not only against TV3 for live coverage of Wednesday nights, but also against Sky.
Niall Cogley, RTÉ Head of Sport, said: "We are absolutely delighted to be back as part of one of the world's most prestigious sporting events. I think it is also a tribute to UEFA that the Irish audience will be able to continue watching the Champions League in its entirety on free-to-air television."
The agreement between RTÉ and UEFA is for a period of three years, until the Champions League Final in 2006, and marks a return for RTÉ after an absence of three years.
