Malayala Manorama Extends Operations With OmniBus

Malayala Manorama, a major publishing house based in Kottayam, India, has successfully extended its operations into 24-hour news broadcasting, using technology from OmniBus Systems, the award-winning provider of comprehensive broadcast automation and content management solutions.
Malayala Manorama's system is based around OmniBus Columbus and Colossus for automated playout, with edit facilities for journalists and editors provided by OmniBus HeadLine DE.
"Our move into 24-hour news broadcasting has been a great success, thanks in no small part to the system OmniBus created for us," said Jayant Mammen Mathew, Deputy Editor and Senior General Manager. "It's allowed us to develop an efficient and resilient workflow integrating our three studios, with excellent browse editing facilities and tight integration with third-party components. Part of our design brief was to create a system that would allow us to expand and extend our operations without disrupting existing broadcasts, and the scalability of the OmniBus technology and our experience with it to date means we can plan ahead for growth with confidence."
In its first move into the broadcast market, Malayala Manorama worked with integrator Shaf Broadcast to create a news playout solution at the company's new broadcast facility in Aroor. The system is based around an OmniBus Columbus News channel running with Omneon servers and 24 OmniBus HeadLine DE edit clients running on the ENPS desktops in the news journalist areas.
The station also uses an OmniBus Colossus system to control three separate channels of server-based commercials. Operators can transfer material via FTP from local servers in Malayala Manorama’s two regional studios to the main TX server for commercials in Cochin. The regional studios also provide HeadLine DE systems for their journalists and editors.
