Ascent Media announce a series of customer deployments for Atlas

Ascent Media Services has announced a series of European customer deployments for Atlas, its powerful and secure solution for managing, storing, repurposing and distributing content owners’ most valuable assets.
Launched in April 2005, Atlas was first deployed for Sony Pictures Entertainments (SPE) as it transitioned its portfolio of assets from an analogue to a ‘tapeless’ digital environment, enabling increased flexibility in content delivery. Ascent Media continues to oversee SPE’s file-based digital asset management archive, and has successfully launched the product in Europe with the announcement of three major UK-based projects.
The list includes a project with the British Army, which sees video footage from the Everest West Ridge 2006 expedition being managed and hosted by the group’s Media Services Division.
A team of 21 climbers from the British Army is currently attempting an ascent to conquer Everest and become the first Britons to reach the summit via its infamous West Ridge. Also going is the junior team from the Army Foundation College at Harrogate.
The team began its trek on 12 April and live feeds will be downlinked to Ascent Media’s London playout facility until the expedition is completed in early July. The content is then uploaded to Atlas and made available for the world press throughout the duration of the trek.
Ascent Media Europe has also won a contract to provide BBC Worldwide with a digital content management service which uses Atlas’ secure digital archiving service, allowing it to distribute content more efficiently to clients worldwide and providing the basis for delivering content to a range of current and future platforms. The instant availability of content as well as the ability to use the same piece of content in multiple places simultaneously and the ability to repurpose content dynamically in response to customer requirements all provide significant benefits which will be increased as the system is further developed.
