ITN Archive announces launch of music footage catalogue
ITN Archive is to launch its extensive collection of music footage on Thursday February 24 at the Marquee Club in London’s Leicester Square.
Featuring performances from the earliest days of sound on film to acts on current television shows, the ITN music archive is one of the largest and most comprehensive in the world, featuring several thousand performances.
The catalogue is made up of performances from three major sources which the ITN Archive represents: Granada Television, with performances from commissioned series like 'The Tube' and ITV productions like 'Whats’ On', 'So It Goes' and the 'South Bank Show'; Channel 4 featuring cutting edge youth shows like 'TFI Friday' and 'The Word' which regularly featured new music, as well as more current performances on the youth strand T4; and British Pathe, comprising thousands of exclusive performances from the pioneering entertainment cinemagazine 'Pathetone Weekly' (1930 to 1941) and the 'Pathe Pictorial' (1931 to 1969) including Elvis, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.
The collection also includes rare material from Reuters Television and Fox Movietone, who are also represented worldwide by ITN Archive.
The ITN music catalogue is available for licensing worldwide not only into traditional media like television, radio and cinema, but also into the ever-expanding area of content for 3G mobile phones, websites and, in particular DVD and CD where 'extras' on re-releases are packed with unseen and rare performances.
Ross Landau, who heads the music sales team at ITN Archive, said: “The most exciting thing about the ITN Archive Music catalogue for me is the sheer diversity. Where else would you get Arthur Askey and Gertrude Lawrence sitting beside Johnny Rotten and Liam Gallagher."
Mark Wood, ITN’s Chief Executive, commented: “The launch of this catalogue represents a watershed in the growth of the Archive. Five years ago we used to sell just news from ITN and Reuters, but with our new exclusive relationships with British Pathe, Channel Four and Granada we now sell everything from 'Coronation Street' to Queen.”
