Slovenian Pop TV selects Pro-Bel technology for integrated news production studio

Pro-Bel has announced that Pop TV in Slovenia has selected a Sirius router plus ICON signal processing technology, as part of a major facility upgrade.
The sale has been handled by Pro-Bel's Slovenian dealer, Pro Motions.
Pop TV, based in Ljubljana and part of the US-owned Central European Media Enterprises, has installed a Sirius router equipped for both SDI and analogue video, as well as AES and analogue audio. A wide range of ICON frames have also been installed. The equipment forms part of a new, integrated news production studio that went on-air in September, in time for the Slovenian general elections.
The Sirius and ICON equipment is being used at the ingest stage of the broadcaster's new Avid iNews news production system. The sheer number of audio and video formats used for news supply, as well the legacy analogue formats that constitute Pop TV's news archive meant the broadcaster required a highly flexible routing/interfacing system for this new digital tapeless production set-up.
A Pro-Bel Sirius router was selected because of its format-independent switching, allowing Pop TV to minimise the quantity of external conversion boxes, reducing both investment costs and saving on rack space and power consumption. According to Janez Zigon, General Manager of Pro Motions, the combination of a Sirius router and ICON products provided Pop TV with a flexible solution able to handle the feeds regardless of the source, destination or format.
Graham Pitman, Pro-Bel Group CEO, added: "This is yet another vindication of our design philosophy regarding Sirius and our decision to make it the most flexible routing system available. Combined with our ever-popular ICON range, Pop TV has been able to achieve its aims cost-effectively and quickly."
