Archive specialist TMR boosts restoration facilities with MTI digital restoration suite

Archive specialist TMR (The Machine Room) has invested in a digital restoration suite from MTI, a major boost to its already comprehensive restoration facilities.
The purchase allows the company to offer clients restoration techniques ranging from physical film treatment processes to electronic HD/SD scratch & dirt removal, as well as noise reduction, stabilisation and format/resolution conversion.
The new digital restoration system brings non-linear dirt and scratch removal and image stabilisation capabilities to the facility and complements TMR’s existing Teranex imageRestore real-time restoration device. The MTI suite is PC driven and provides resolution independent restoration from SD and HD right the way up to 2K, 4K and beyond. It will be housed in a new bespoke suite on the top floor of TMR’s Soho facility.
Combined with TMR’s exclusive Film Treatment Centre, the new suite allows TMR to offer an unrivalled restoration service.
“The beauty of the MTI system is that it’s non-real-time and you can work on a project piece by piece to do noise and grain reduction, aperture correction or flicker correction,” said Darryl Huxley, TMR’s Technical Director. “It’s also very easy to expand the capabilities of the MTI kit and we’re already thinking about this even though it’s only recently been installed.”
The suite is already being used 24 hours a day, seven days a week at the facility with three major projects lined up and several more in the pipeline.
