Curious Software Maps spread World Vision

World Vision, a Christian relief and development organisation, has used Curious Software’s Curious World Maps to create information graphics for its extensive range of publications.
Launched in 2000 as a solution for creating broadcast quality still and animated maps for television, corporate presentations and the Internet, Curious World Maps software is in daily use by many top companies including ABC, BBC, CBS, CNN, NBC, The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, The Weather Channel.
Dirk Jacobs, head of World Vision’s Creative Unit in Germany, came across Curious Software’s map generation package when he was researching ways of illustrating World Vision’s publications with accurate maps.
“World Vision operates in nearly 100 countries and employs over 20,000 staff,” he explained. “As nearly all of our publications deal with international subject matter, we needed access to high quality map graphics to illustrate our stories and special report so that we could place them in a firm geographical context.
“Although it is primarily designed as a broadcast product, Curious World Maps software proved very useful. It’s very user-friendly software and has great potential in the fields of web-animation, video and information-graphics. It is this unique combination of features that sets it apart from its competitors.”
World Vision aims to promote the well being of all people - especially children - by offering material, emotional, social and spiritual support. It currently helps over 100 million people worldwide.
Curious World Maps software includes built-in vector databases of the whole world comprising detailed outline data for countries, regions, states and counties. It also includes over 500,000 place names covering towns, mountains and other physical features such as rivers, lakes and roads.
Imported local data or satellite images can also be incorporated into maps, making it simple to create in minutes an animation than zooms in from a spinning globe right down to a single building.
