MultiChoice Africa upgrades digital DTH system with Scopus
Scopus Network Technologies, a leading supplier of digital compression technology to the broadcasting industry, has reported that Multichoice Africa has once again selected its digital broadcast platforms for digital DTH (Direct-to-Home) services.
Utilising Scopus' platforms, MultiChoice transmits 54 digitally compressed TV channels on the W4 platform to viewers throughout the African continent.
In 2001, Scopus provided MultiChoice with a ‘one-stop-shop’ solution including integration of head-end architecture, engineering and the supply of digital video compression equipment. This new contract expands and upgrades the current systems with new platforms as well technologies to push MultiChoice's digital broadcast abilities into the future. In addition, the upgraded system enables the pay-TV giant to increase its market presence in a wide swath of French and Portuguese speaking Africa. Scopus is represented in South Africa by GIT (Graphic Image Technologies).
